It’s amazing that these people think that they are leaders?? They picked a new slogan of ‘The Change You Deserve’; which also happens to be the same slogan for an anti-depressent. How appropriate. They just lost their third Congressional special election, two in Republican districts (the last had voted 59% for Bush in 2004). Their response? To try out-Democrat the Democrats. News Flash! It can’t be done! Supporting earmarks, government bailouts, federal health care, open borders, and global warming eco-propaganda won’t get them anything but permanent minority status. The beating they’ll take in November (whether McCain manages to pull it of or not), will be one for the books.
The time is now to look for new GOP leadership, because the current buffoons couldn’t manage a bingo game, much less an effective, principled political party. But where to find the replacements? Where can we find individuals dedicated to public service with experience at effective and disiplined governance? After reading Yon’s book, I realized the answer is simple; in the captains, majors and colonels returning from multiple tours of service in Iraq. Not for their ‘hero’ status: Because- for the last couple of years- they have been spending much of their time administering entire cities; dealing with budgets, corruption and political complexities we cannot fathom. They also have generally proven their willingness to serve ‘a greater good’, rather than self-interest. I would trust nearly any one of these mid-range officers as a legislator before the inept gang that makes up the current GOP ‘leadership’.
The GOP did recruit 17 vets for Congressional seats, but not for the purpose for which I speak. Any of these that succeed (sadly, probably few), should join with any surviving remnants of the legislative GOP that realize that the RINO, neo-con, semi-Democrat approach is disaster, and take the party back to classical conservative values. And the vets should be brought up to leadership status quickly; they truly know what leadership and service means.

I have an idea, maybe the Republican party should support limited government and maximized freedom within a fiscally responsible federal democratic republic form of government. I mean, it’s not like any other major political party is using any of those ideas.
Using those concepts as talking points while actively working in the exact opposite direction doesn’t count. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Your actions speak so loudly, I cannot hear what you say.” It looks like the electorate may be wising up to decades of Republican “bait-&-switch”.
I have to wonder how we ever got sucked into buying the “Schoolyard Bully” style of foreign policy. “Step 1 – Identify the guy you don’t like & punch him in the nose. Step 2 – repeat Step 1 until you acheive world peace.” I’m ready for my nation to try what The Dragon Lady taught me: “Use your brains first, if that doesn’t work use your fists” (And keep your left up!) Only scared little men (probably anatomically challenged) feel the compulsion to use violence as the first choice.
