Honoring Those who Died in Service

This weekend we honor those who died in service to this country.  Normally that refers to people in military service to this country like the recent Medal of Honor winners : can you name one?  Sadly, not one is as well know as the third place finishers in ‘American Idol’ (the MOH winners are listed below).

But the military are not the only ones pressed to make the ultimate sacrifice for this country.  When the situation arises, it is the firefighter- like the 343 that died on 9/11; the civilian- like the passenger of UA 93; and anyone else who rises to the occasion.  And, to me, the most profound story of ultimate sacrifice is that of double hero Rick Rescorla. If you read any story of of ultimate sacrifice in service of this country, read this one of saving 2,700 lives

Never, EVER forget the sacrifices of the military and those drawn into national service by circumstance. Our thoughts should also be of those left behind, like Christian, son of Staff Sgt. Marc Golczynski, subject of the picture below:
